HOGSBACK HERITAGE PROJECT
2012
“Roads, Trails, and Cow Paths”Each year in conjunction with the theme of the Boulder Heritage Festival, a publication is compiled to expand upon the festival theme. The theme for 2012 is “Roads, Trails and Cow Paths.” Through the writings, photos, and artwork, we hope to document and celebrate the history of our community, the surrounding landscape, and the paths that brought us here.
The 2012 Theme offers expansive possibilities. Here are a few we have considered:
- Roads: ( Boulder Road, Burr Trail Road, Boulder Mountain Road, Hells Backbone Road, etc.) Historical Stories, interviews, personal experiences, how have the roads changed, the road builders, and stories of the workers.
- Trails: (Death Hollow, Coyote Gulch, Moody Canyon, Harris Wash, etc.) first hike, death defying hike, where does your favorite trail take you, your own land(e)scape stories and poetry.
- Cow Paths: (From “Down Below” to the Mountain Pastures) First trails, stories of moving cows and the people who moved them.
- Names of Places: (The Haymaker, Silver Falls, Wolverine, Chriss Lake, Death Hollow, Hells Backbone) How did it get that name?
- What “road” brought you here and why?
These are only a few ideas but we hope you will find your own or use one of these and participate. The kick off for this project will be at the Cliff Notes Writing Workshop. The Hogsback Heritage Project session will be held on Friday. October 8th at 1:00pm and will feature author, Craig Childs. Craig has explored and written about many ancient roads. Join him to explore our own local “Roads, Trails and Cow Paths.” The deadline for projects for this publication will be April, 2012. You can mail it to Box 1448, Boulder, UT 84716 or email it to cheryl@boulderheritage.org. The publication will be available at the 2012 Boulder Heritage Festival.
